Dear Verse Community, Ciara here, with some news about Verse, it has been a turbulent few weeks to say the least. First Covid and now the true uprising and responsibility for us all to really reflect and start to re set based on diversity and inclusion. I started my first concept store in the iconic Prinsengracht, Amsterdam in 2016. Fast forward and our business has changed, without having the amazing international tourism in the centre of the city i have taken the immediate decision to shut my first store. Actually that store felt like my child, i have given blood sweat and tears and investment to have a store on an A location to prove that sustainable fashion can be accessible to all kinds of shoppers. Effective from today you can no longer shop at our centre store but our pivot to service more customers online and at our new local flagship in De Pijp is stronger than ever. We are busy with a renovation in our trendy little neighbourhood boutique and i can assure you the experience will be amazing, safe and in line with a new phase of retail. In the midst of the last few weeks questions have arisen for me about the kind of brands that i want to support as an entrepreneur of colour, and one who is dedicated to sustainability. For me it's simply not enough to just have a brand that looks like it ticks the boxes, i want to dig into their inclusion practices, their true ethics, and the people behind it. Due to Covid I have too experienced questionable ethics, from some brands that i never expected it from, and solidarity from some that i also did not expect it from, it has been a huge learning curve. When i started Verse i did it from a pure sustainability standpoint, with a focus on offering unisex as much as possible so that all people can shop their values. Now it has become crystal clear that my core value is to also support businesses owned by people of colour, and that share my same values, aside from just the sustainable and eco friendly product. You will see a Verse refreshed to reflect my true values, and reflect me as an entrepreneur of colour. I welcome you on my journey and want to thank everyone who has supported me along the way. XXX
